Chinese Moon Festival in Shanghai

The moon festival is believed to have the brightest and most round moon during the year. Chinese people eat the moon cakes to enjoy a sweet and complete family life. Legendary goes that there is a lady Chang'e living in the moon. Her husband got two pills for eternal life. Instead of taking one, Chang'e ate both pills. She flew up to the moon and lived an eternal life there, but was alone and afar. Looking up at the full moon, you may identify a lonely female figure regretting on her greediness.

Religions are free in China now and there are various religious practice in Shanghai. Catholic/Christianity rank the 3rd biggest religion in China. People go to churches on Sunday for the mass, both the expats living in Shanghai and local Chinese.

YongAn department store is located in the middle of Nanjing East Pedestrian Road. There is a stage for classic tunes on the second floor. You can often see people dancing on the shopping street with the music. The visitors and shoppers would stop to watch, or join freely if they like.

Sometimes it is hard to believe how much can be carried on a three-wheel bicycle. Although packed with light materials in below case, the driver was really challenging the electricity lines and passersby.It is dangerous and unsafe. However, everyone is making a living through the busy city lanes.

Most parks are free in Shanghai. They are lovely public area for local people to relax. For tourists, parks can be a good place to see local life of Shanghai. Kids play around with friends while senior people practise Tai chi or other exercises. Sometimes you may run into ballroom dancing in a warm and sunny afternoon. Jing’an Sculpture Park is well designed with various sculptures and statues.
